The Most Vicious Family in Cambodia (1) 캄보디아의 최악질 가족 (1)

July 19th, 2010 is the date on which I first met Pheakdey in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. At that time he was working for the Capitol Guest House as a receptionist, and I was one of the guests staying there.

 

내가 프놈펜에서 페크데이를 처음 만난 날은 2010년 7월 19일이다. 당시 녀석은 카피톨 게스트 하우스에서 접수계원으로 근무하고 있었고, 난 그곳에 투숙한 손님이었다.

 

 

On July 23rd, I first had a private talk with him 4 days after I stayed at the Capitol Guest House, and I had a friendly feeling toward him since he seemed to be clever and a strong-willed person. That day, I wanted to buy him dinner at a nice restaurant, but he took me to a wretched outdoor restaurant, and we had cheap fried rice together. I really liked his courteous manners and a bit shy look. The way he acted would have given a good impression to anyone.

 

7월 23일, 카피톨 게스트 하우스에 투숙한 지 4일 만에 처음으로 사적인 대화를 나누었는데, 녀석이 똑똑하고 의지가 강한 사람 같아서 호감이 갔다. 그날 근사한 식당에서 저녁을 사주고 싶었지만, 녀석이 초라한 야외식당으로 날 이끌어서 함께 값싼 볶음밥을 먹었다. 녀석의 예의 바른 태도와 다소 수줍어하는 표정이 정말 마음에 들었다. 녀석이 취한 행동은 누구에게라도 호감을 주었을 것이다.
